Mobipol Employee Becomes World Champion in Olive Harvesting!

From 13 to 16 October, the 5th World Championships in Olive Harvesting took place in Postira on the Croatian island of Brač. For the second time, Poland, represented by our employee Krzysztof Nita, Małgorzata Nita, Magdalena Bąkowska, and Karol Podborożny, won.

The idea to participate in the competition came from Krzysztof, who, while lying on the couch, heard a short news report that such a competition took place and no Polish team had participated. “We had to fix that,” said Krzysztof. “I sent a few emails to the organizers, and we received an invitation.”

The competition has its rules. After the whistle marking the start of the contest, a representative of each of the 10 teams runs to a tree they choose. The entire team then has 45 minutes to collect as many olives as possible. The olives are harvested by hand into special bags and then transferred into special baskets.

The team from Poznań gathered 48 kg of olives, while Croatia, second this year, collected 4 kg less. The same day, the harvested olives were sent to a processing plant and converted into olive oil, which all participants received. 

The competition aims to promote the culture of olive cultivation, and the greatest prize, according to our champions, is the international friendships they made thanks to the championships.
