A short repair time is more important than costs, and the choice of a workshop is clearly influenced by the opinions of family or friends – according to a study commissioned by Mobil 1 motor oil producer among 4,000 drivers from Poland, Germany, France, and Italy*.

Mobil 1 study does not confirm a trust crisis in mechanics

90% of respondents from Poland know where to seek professional advice. About half of the drivers from Poland choose a car workshop within 4 hours, and every fourth respondent does not spend more than an hour on it. We spend our money on services more cautiously compared to drivers from other countries. In Germany, 30% of drivers choose a workshop without analyzing household expenses and repair costs, whereas in our country only one in ten drivers behaves this way.

Trust as a basis for choosing a workshop

Trust is the basis for choosing a workshop in every country. However, Poland is distinguished by the high position of choosing a car service based on recommendations.

The recommendation of family or friends is important for 54% of respondents from Poland, compared to 49% of drivers in Germany, 37% in France, and 35% in Italy. So, what determines a return visit to a workshop according to the participants of the Mobil 1 study? In all countries, drivers most often pointed to service quality (83.5%), but in Poland, the repair time also had higher importance (66%), which turned out to be even more important than the service costs (63%). For drivers from Poland, it is also significant whether the workshop uses premium brand products (34% compared to 31% in Italy, 19% in France, and 16% in Germany).

Prior to travel – vehicle technical inspection

The similarity in the behavior of drivers from different countries can be seen in the priorities accompanying family trips. Regardless of the place of residence, we pay the most attention to checking the technical condition of the car – among other things, we check oil levels and tire pressure. The second place is planning the route – compared to other countries, this issue has greater significance for Poles. Before traveling, 75% of respondents from Poland plan their route compared to 65% of survey participants from Germany, 63% from Italy, and 61% from France.

The Mobil 1 study was conducted as part of the Mobil 1 Workshop program, which brings together car workshops across Europe. More information about the Program is available from authorized Mobil lubricants distributors.

*Study conducted by 3GEM Research & Insights in October 2017 among a group of 4,000 drivers from Poland (1,000), France (1,000), Germany (1,000), and Italy (1,000).
