Challenges in Maritime and Inland Navigation

Extreme operating conditions at sea

Navigation requires specialized lubricants capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of high-sulfur fuel. Diesel engines operating in salty water environments, under varying temperatures and loads, need top-quality oils to ensure reliability.

Five critical problems for aviation oils:

Acidic Corrosion of Diesel Engines

Acidic Corrosion of Diesel Engines

Combustion of high-sulfur heavy fuel generates strong acids. Inadequate marine oil leads to corrosion of cylinders, pistons, and valves, shortening the lifespan of high-speed marine engines.

Deposit Formation in Auxiliary Machinery

Deposit Formation in Auxiliary Machinery

High temperatures and fuel impurities contribute to varnish and sludge buildup. Clogged oil channels in diesel engines lead to overheating and emergency shutdown.

Oil Degradation in Marine Conditions

Oil Degradation in Marine Conditions

Salty water and extreme conditions accelerate product oxidation. Increased viscosity and loss of lubricating properties threaten bearing seizure and crankshaft damage.

Water Contamination of Lubrication Systems

Water Contamination of Lubrication Systems

Seawater leaks into the oil system are common in inland or coastal navigation. Water-oil emulsions do not lubricate adequately, leading to catastrophic engine damage.

Violation of Environmental Regulations

Violation of Environmental Regulations

Using inadequate lubricants threatens the marine environment. Oil leaks that do not meet standards can result in high fines and detainment of the unit in port.

Applications:
Check Your Unit Category

Our lubricants and marine oils should be used in all types of floating units.

  • Deep-Sea Shipping

    Deep-Sea Shipping

Large container ships and bulk carriers require oils capable of operating for months without replacement. High-quality engine oil with high TBN handles the toughest conditions and residual fuel. The efficiency of onboard equipment on a floating unit depends on the quality of the oils used.

  • Inland and Coastal Navigation

    Inland and Coastal Navigation

Barges and tugs used in inland navigation operate in varying fresh and salty water conditions. Universal SAE oils provide engine protection under frequent startups and load changes.

  • Fishing Ships and Trawlers

    Fishing Ships and Trawlers

Fishing units operating under tough conditions need reliable lubricants. The manufacturer must supply products resistant to seawater, protecting auxiliary engines and trawl winches.

  • Yachts and Recreational Units

    Yachts and Recreational Units

Yacht diesel engines require oils combining excellent protection with clean burning. Special formulas minimize smoking and deposits while maintaining full engine power.

  • Specialist Ships and Platforms

    Specialist Ships and Platforms

Service units and drilling platforms need oils for diverse applications. From turbine lubrication to hydraulic systems – the warehouse offers a full range of products.

  • Ports and Repair Shipyards

    Ports and Repair Shipyards

Port services require a wide range of oils for servicing various types of units. Warehouses must be stocked with universal and specialized products for quick servicing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • For engines burning high-sulfur fuel, a high TBN oil (40-100) is necessary. Quality engine oil must neutralize acids and prevent corrosion under tough conditions on residual fuel.

  • Marine oils are distinguished by high alkaline reserve, resistance to seawater, and stability. They are designed for lubricating engines operating non-stop in extreme environments.

  • Frequency depends on engine type, fuel quality, and conditions. With regular analysis, a good product can work 1000-3000 hours in diesel engines.

  • It is not recommended. The main engine, auxiliaries, and hydraulic systems have different requirements. Manufacturers always specify SAE and API level for each application.

  • Biodegradable EAL oils are required in protected zones. Lubricants and marine oils should meet VGP standards and have eco-certifications.

  • For cold waters, choose a lower SAE class (30, 40), for the tropics, a higher one (50). The engine manufacturer specifies the permissible viscosity range for various ambient temperatures.
